In 2004 Susan J. Metcalf went to England to find information on the Metcalf family.
She looked up the family of Robert Leven in Burk's Peerage in the State Library. She found listed an Alexander who had a son Robert in 1789. Alexander Leven, born 1749 died in 1820. His wife, whom he married in 1784 was from a very infuential family. She was Jane Thornton, esquire, which meant she was a granddaughter of a Lord, but her father was a second son. Alexander was the 9th Lord of Monmouth and 6th Earl of Melville.

Isabelle was raised in this household. When she became pregnant a bit prematurely and married her lover, Arthur Metcalf who was just a land-overseer, with no social prestige, the Earl disinherited her. Isabelle stated she had a title in England. She said she was "LADY"

Athur and Isabell had 10 children born in England when they migrated to the U.S. They left Liverpool to NY.NY. on 7~June~1830 on the Ship named ENVOY. When they arrived in U.S. they had their 11th child in Jackson Co. Ohio.
