Mr. Aubrey Clarence Callaway, 76, of Whitesburg, died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 1995, at his residence following an extended illness.
He was born Sept. 13, 1918, in Clayton County, the son of the late Arthur Turner Callaway and the late Mrs. Ophelia Cornelia Tanner Callaway. He was a retired floor finisher in construction and a security guard with the City of Atlanta. He was also a veteran having served in the United States Army during World War II.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold Callaway, Claude Tanner Callaway and George Henry Callaway.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Lena Gaston Callawy of Whitesburg; one son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Drayton (Carol) Callaway of Whitesburg, nephew, Samuel Mickey of Villa Rica; two brothers, James Walter (Ned) Callaway of Forest Park, Raymond Turner Callaway of Jonesboro; four sisters Mrs. Opal Lear Teate of Atlanta, Mrs. Ruby Mae Gunter of McDonough, Mrs. Jewell Thelma Shelton of Mansfield and Mrs. Florence Lorene Atkinson of Tampa, Fla.; three grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, Feb. 3, at 1 p.m. at the Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home with Minister Allen Howard officiating. Interment will follow in the Consolation Baptist Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Herchell Wood, Tony Gaston, Ronald Gunter, Tommy Atkinson, Frank Parham and Joe Gaston. American Legion Post 143 will have charge of the flag folding services at the graveside.
