(Mary) Elaine Prueter was born on January 16, 1927 in East. St. Louis, Il., the daughter of Henry C. Kluge and Emma nee Schroeppel. She was born by Water and the Holy Spirit through Holy Baptism on February 20, 1927 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Collinsville, IL., and renewed her Baptismal Covenant at Holy Cross on her Confirmation Day, March 17, 1940. She went to her Eternal Rest on July 13, 2012.
Elaine attend Holy Cross Lutheran School and Collinsville Township High School. She entered Valparaiso University, Valparaiso, IN for the Special Deaconess Training of our Synod. Her training included a year of internship at the Metropolitan Lutheran Inner Mission Society in the Hell's Kitchen area of New York City.
On September 12, 1948, Elaine was consecrated as a Lutheran Deaconess at her Home Church. She then returned to NYC to serve MLIMS until 1956 and again in 1958 - 1961, she worked as a Parish Deaconess at Trinity Lutheran Church on New York's Lower East Side.
On May 21, 1960, Elaine was united in marriage at Trinity with Theodore Henry Prueter of Toledo, OH. (Ted and Elaine remained in NYC until 1963, during which time Ted served as a full-time Lay Worker at Trinity under the auspices of the Atlantic District of Synod.) Their marriage was blessed with three sons: William, Timothy and Richard; two daughter-in-laws: Linda and Kimberly; two grandsons: Andrew and David and a grandaughter; Emily.
In addition to a full-time ministry in the Lord's Vineyard, Elaine was active in St. Luke's Time Square area and Trinity, Lower East Side of Manhattan, and also served as the president of the Manhattan Zone, Atlantic District of the LWML, and Vice-President, (Atlantic District, LWML)
At Peace Lutheran, Waterford, Michigan, Elaine was privileged to serve in various capacities over the years, including: Chairman of the Worship Committee and Coordinator for His Love-Our Response. At Cedar Crest Lutheran, White Lake, Michigan, Elaine served as Organist/Choir Director and a deviotional leader for the Mary-Marths Society. In January 2002, the Council of Lutheran Women honored Elaine as Cedar Crest's Woman of the Year. She also served in the Pontiac Zone, LWML.
Elaine's summation of her blessings, "By God's Grace and Mercy, I was privileged to know the deepest blessings of a Christian Home, loving and caring Christian parents during childhood and a dedicated pastor and teacher in my home congregation; the love of a Christian help meet and three very dear sons, two daughter-in-laws, 3 grandchildren, attending joys of motherhood and grand-parenting; the special joys of a full-time and volunteer ministry with dedicated Christian co-workers in God's Kingdom and special Christian friends. Above all, I knew the love and saving grace of my gracious GOD. TO HIM ALONE BE ALL PRAISE AND GLORY!! AMEN, ALLELUIA!!!
