DR. O. E. BRITTAIN born September 5, 1843 in Alabama. He was the son of WILLIAM PINKNEY BRITTAIN (County Clerk of Rusk, Texas) and NANCY BELTON "NEAL" BRITTAIN. He was the oldest of eight children. He came to Texas as a young boy and spent his boyhood in Cherokee County, Texas. At the age of 17, O. E. Brittain signed up in Galveston, Texas as a Private on October 14, 1861 for Debray's Reg't Texas Cavalry and served in the Confederate Army under Gen. Albert Sidney Johnson. Onzalo Euclid Brittain married Ella Sarah Hill on March 17, 1872 in Palestine, Anderson County, Texas. They were one of the early settlers of Beaumont, Texas. They were blessed with 7 children. Dr. O. E. Brittain was a Physician by trade traveling to different towns in Texas setting up an office for the inflicted to visit him. Dr. Brittain was a Mason, just as his father, W. P. Brittain was a Mason at the Euclid Lodge, No. 45. He died at the age of 73 of heart failure in his home in Beaumont, Jefferson County, Texas on July 11, 1917. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ella Brittain, 4 daughters, Rita, Lula Dell, Velma, Golda Mae and 1 son, Roy R. Brittain. His pall bearers were: G. Lee, W. P. Thompson, F. S. McGinty, Geo. W. Kidd, J. Brickhouse, and T. W. Redman. Honorary pall bearers were: Dr. H. A. Barr, Tom Buford, Judge Lamar, J. L. Cunningham, Marvin Scurlock and Will Burrell.
