John R. Scott. well known resident of the Scircleville community,died Tuesday morning at the Clinton county hospital at Frankfort of a complication of ailments resulting from a fall several weeks ago at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Walter Clark in Scircleville, where he, had been making his home for some time, Mr. Scott was taken to the hospital seven weeks ago.
Funeral services for Mr. Scott will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Baptist church one mile south of Scircleville where he had held membership for many years. Burial will be in the Scott Cemetery near the church.
Mr. Scott was born September 10. 1844, on the Tipton-Clinton line near Old Berlin, and was the son of Daniel and Mary Scott. A brother, Phillip Scott near Bluffton and a sister Mrs. Samuel Towers, near Scircleville are the only ones surviving of the father's family.
Mr. Scott was married three times. His first wife was Miss Artlessa Tudor, her death occurred fifty-nine years ago. One son Arlie Scott near Scircleville survives this union. His second marriage was to Miss Sarah Merrill and six children were born to this union. Three daughters survive Mrs. Mollie Magnunson of Lafayette, Mrs. Clark with whom he had been making his home and Mrs. Ollie Holmes of Scircleville. His third marriage was to Mrs. Mary Garrott. Her death took place in 1922. He is survived by six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Mr. Scott was one of the fine esteemed citizens of the community who had done his part in the upbuilding of that community in the early pioneering days.
