|Birth: ||Jan. 27, 1849|
John Valentine Albert, MD was born in Lebanon County, Pennsylvania. The son of grist miller, John Albert (1916-1903), and Catharine Ulrich (1817-1892), he was known throughout his life as "J.V. Albert." His first name often appears as "Jon" in records of that period.
Educated at the Academy at Myerstown, J.V. next attended Bucknell College. An 1870 graduate of Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, J.V. began his medical practice in Philadelphia and Millersburg.
He met and married Emma E. Fisher (1851-1915) of Ashland while earning his medical degree. Together they had two sons: David L. Albert, who died at 6 months of age in 1870, and Claude Nester Albert (1873-1948), the long-time proprietor of a stationery store in Pine Grove. Claude's son, Allen, would go on to co-own and operate Albert's Clothing store in Pine Grove with his wife, Nona (Snyder) Albert, the daughter of John Hartranft Snyder, one of the co-founders of the Lavelle Telephone and Telegraph Company in Lavelle, Pennsylvania.
In 1880, J.V. Albert became a medical examiner and member of the Royal Arcanum. At the close of one century and dawn of another, he served as the physician for Schuylkill County's alms house and one term as that county's deputy coroner. He was a member of the Democratic Party.
In 1913, the Journal of the American Medical Association reported that he was recovering from a painful injury suffered during a serious fall on hard pavement.
He died in 1943 at the age of 94, and was interred in the Albert family section of the St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery in Pine Grove.
