Martha was a good friend....I did not know her very long. I was attending my first SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism) event in Kansas City when we met. I was about 11 years old and knew only a few people. Her and her husband Jim befriended me and helped me learn along with my brother Billy about the SCA. 'Andrea' was her SCA name and she made sure I got involved with the group. About a year later, I received my shire rope....meaning I had been recognized as a member of the Shire of Forgotten Sea. Andrea had seen to it that for all of my hard work, I was given my membership.
A couple of years later, she had gotten sick and passed away. I had learned that she was allergic to most everything and it had slowly robbed her of her health. Her funeral was simple and beautiful. I miss my friend, but know she is at peace and no longer facing the issues she faced while with us.
