STAUNTON--Sam Eleopoulos, 88, died at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at Barry Care Center in Staunton.
born in Greece, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Constandina Eleopoulos, he was a restaurant owner at Coney Island in East St. Louis. He retired in 1963.
He married Florence Vlahon on May 15, 1948, in East St. Louis and she survives.
In addition to his wife, surviving are one daughter, Rose Matherson of Huntington Park, Calif, five stepdaughters, Sophia Vlahon of Staunton, Marie Tretter of Belleville, Ann Stokes and Marcena Campbell, both of Granite City and Kay Lentis of Clearwater, Fla; two sons, Jack Williamson of Tyler, Texas and Nick Eleopoulos of Cahokia; four stepsons, Steve Vlahon of Saginaw, Mich, Nick Vlahon of Springfield, Sam Vlahon of Omaha, Neb, and Manuel Vlahon of Collinsville; seven grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton.
Services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Greek Orthodox Church of Saints Constandine and Helen in Belleville with the Rev. J. Gabriel Karambis officiating.
Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Belleville.
