AMMONS, JAMES WALLACE age 93, 21 Jun 1915 of the McCalla area passed away on March 22, 2009. He was born in Bessemer, AL, the son of James Thomas "Dude" Ammons and Roxie Mae Henderson Ammons. He was an Army 526 AIB veteran of World War II and a survivor of the Battle of the Bulge. For decades James worked as a chemist at the U.S. Steel Company. In 1943 he married Dorothy Coleman Ammons, who after 55 years in marriage preceded him in death. James is survived by his daughter, Roxanne Ammons Pollan (and her husband Gene Pollan); and his son, Frederick "Ricky" Ammons (and wife Jane Ammons); and their families, including grandchildren, Bonnie and Neil Pollan and James and Jesse Ammons. He was predeceased by his brothers, Troy Ammons, Harry and Harold Ammons, and his sister-in-law, Mary Knight Ammons; and brother-in-law, Fred Caldwell. James is survived by his brother, Cecil Ammons ; sister, Bobbie Ammons Caldwell, sisters-in-law, Barbara Moon Ammons and Christine Ammons; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. Special extended family includes Farris Gray and her children, Jim, Priscilla, J.T., Ginnie, Jackie, and Laura. James lived his life by one of his favorite sayings, "I have my sufficiency full and I am quite serencified.". Burial will be in Cedar Hill cemetery.
