Julia Louise Hansen, age 84, of Manhattan, died Thursday morning, April 30, 1998, at the Mercy Health Center on College Avenue following an extended illness.
She was born on March 4, 1914, in Ray County, Missouri, the daughter of Samuel O. and Julie M. (Joy) Penny. Mrs. Hansen was a nationally honored child photographer, having won the National Baby Contest for Best Picture, as well as three national honorable mention awards.
The former Julia Louise Penny married C. Calvin Hansen on December 27, 1949 in Pratt, Kansas. Mr. Hansen survives of the home. Mr. and Mrs. Hansen operated the university Gardens subdivision at Anderson and Garden way in 1963, where they built the first large apartment project in Manhattan after World War II.
Mrs. Hansen was a member and past Matron of the Bonner Springs, Kansas Order of the Eastern Star and had been appointed to several committees and chairs in the Kansas State Order of the Eastern Star.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Hansen is survived by 13 nieces and nephews and their children. Mrs. Hansen was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
