Lawrence Richard Kleinman, a life-long resident of Mesa, completed his sojourn on earth at the age of 82 at his home on August 8, 2006. Richard was born April 8, 1924 in Mesa, Arizona, the first son of Lawrence H. and Orvilla Kleinman.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Richards Kleinman of 31 years, daughter Dawne Lynelle Llewellyn of Tucson and son Andrew of Gilbert. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Aline Gardner in 1960 and by his older sister, Margaret Lisonbee in 2002.
Richard was the loving father to 4 additional children, Karen Kasold of Chandler, Paul Kasold of Phoenix , Laura Garn of Chandler, and Melody Martin of Murrieta, California plus 24 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Karl of Mesa, sister Ruth Ellsworth of Clearfield, Utah, and brother Alan of Mesa.
Richard attended Alma School in Mesa, graduated from Mesa High School and served as a Marine during the second world war in the South Pacific theater. He was a life-long active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a mission in the Western States following his military service. He served as a volunteer for 12 years at the Mesa Family History Center.
His retirement in 1984 followed a full working career with the City of Mesa as the head of a city survey crew.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 12, at 10 am at the LDS chapel on 1266 S. 32nd Street with interment following in the Mesa City Cemetery. A viewing will precede the service at 9 am. A viewing will also be held from 7 to 9 pm on Friday evening at Bunker Mortuary, 33 North Centennial Way.
