Services for Virgil R. Fisher, 72, of Waterloo, were held at 10:30 a.ma. Tuesday, Feb. 9, at Sacred heart Church of Laporte City, Iowa, with the Rev. Fr. Lloyd Reuter and Msgr. Cletus Hawes of St. Nicholas Church of Evansdale, Iowa, officiating.
Pallbearers were Cletus Wheeler, Fred Rasmussen, Vern Scribner, Joe C.W. Yoder, Tom Donley and Wayne Yoder.
Burial was in West View Cemetery, La Porte City.
Military rites were preformed by La Porte City American Legion, San Diego Post #207 and VFW Normandy Post #3983.
Huisman Funeral Home, La Porte City, was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Fisher died Saturday, Feb. 6, 1999, from congestive heart failure at Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo.
Virgil Fisher was born July 2, 1926, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Roy and Sophie Manninga Fisher. He married Loriane Fangman in Nashua, Iowa, on June 30, 1947.
Mr. Fisher was a feeder pig salesman, an auctioneer and a farmer. He also had worked for Raths and the Waterloo Courier Carrier.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Survivors include his wife; daughters, Cherly and husband Dick Even, Jeni and husband Sherwin Meier and Deb and husband Koontz, all of La Porte City; sons Jeff, Nick and wife Charlotta, all of Mt. Auburn, Iowa, Doug and wife Donna, Spencer, Iowa, Tim and wife Judy, Cedar Rapids, and Terry and wife Jeanie, La Porte City; 22 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; a brother, lester, Fayettville, Ga., and two sisters, Carol Briggs, Eldridge, and Linda Heaton, LeCliare.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three grandchildren.
