The Nashua Reporter, Nashua, Iowa December 1, 1910 page 1:

John L. Cagley, one of the early residents of this county died Sunday morning from heart trouble at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Henry Noble.
Deceased was born February 19, 1840, in Johnson County, Indiana, and came with his parents to Iowa when 8 years of age, settling on a farm east of the Cagley Cemetery where he grew to manhood. September 25, 1861 he was united in marriage to Charlotte A. Carey and to this union were born thirteen children - nine boys and four girls. One daughter, Ida and four sons, Clyde, Calvin, Charles and Robert, with the wife and mother have preceded him to their heavenly home. His wife died November 30, 1907. He leaves to mourn the loss of a loving father, three daughters, Mrs. Beatrice Hanson of Carpenteria, California and Mrs. Mary Noble and Mrs.Melissa Hunt, of Nashua, and five sons, William, of Garland, Oklahoma, George and Ervin, of Chickasaw, Roy, of Nashua, and Marshal, of Charles City, Iowa, and two brothers, Jake, of Horton, and Michael of Ionia, besides a host of relatives and friends.
In 1862 deceased united with the Lutheran church and remained true to his faith until death. In February 1895 he moved with his family to Tennessee where they resided until seven years ago when he and his wife broke up housekeeping and came back to Nashua to spend their declining years with their children. Two years ago, he spent the winter in Tennessee and Arkansas with relatives. In Jannuary, 1908 he was taken with heart trouble from which time he slowly failed until last Sunday morning at 8 o'clock when he closed his eyes on earthly scenes and quietly went to join his loved ones who had gone before. Through all his suffering he made no word of complaint.
The funeral service was held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Congregational church Rev. Kirwin officiating, and interment was in the Cagley cemetery.
