He had been a rare survivor since 2001 of acinar cell pancreatic cancer.
He was the son of the late Marcus Patrick "Mark" Healy and Inez Victoria Helander Healy, and was raised as part of the fourth generation on the family farm started in 1873 and located near Wenona, Ill. He married Linda Rae MacKay of Dolton, Ill., in November 1966.
He obtained a B.S. degree in civil engineering from University of Illinois in 1966.
He worked as an engineer at Caterpillar for 36 years, retiring Jan. 1, 2003. He worked on the wheel loaders and excavators programs at the Aurora design department, Joliet and Decatur Large Mining Product (LMP) manufacturing locations and for four years at the former Arizona Proving Grounds near Phoenix, Ariz. Other work stations included Service and Quality for the LMP group. He was fortunate to be able to travel the world and dedicate almost 10 years working on the German wheel excavator program near Munich while living in Aurora. He enjoyed his Caterpillar work.
He is survived by his wife, Linda, of 41 years; one son, Brian (Jennifer) Healy of Chicago; one daughter, Megan (Scott) McClung of Chicago; and their two twin sons, Evan and Jonas, who were the light of his life. He is also survived by his brother, John (Helen) Healy of Springfield, Ill., his sisters-in-law, Catherine Healy of Wenona and Juanita Healy of Decatur, Ill.; and 22 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mark (1976) and Inez (2001) Healy; and his two other brothers, Pat (1985) and Edward (2004).
