Marie Goth was a noted artist in Brown County, Indiana. This part of Indiana attracted a number of artists, partly due to the hills, lakes and foliage and also the secluded location. Miss Goth studied art at the John Heron Art Institute in Indianapolis and the Art Student League in New York City. Marie moved to the family's summer house in Nashville, IN in 1923.She became the first woman in Indiana to paint an official portrait of the governor. Marie was instrumental in founding the Brown County Art Gallery Association and the Brown County Art Guild.
