John was my Gr GR Grandfather. Parents-John Kemmerly,Sr and Margabeth Weitzer.John,Jr.was an immigrant from Germany 1851. Served Civil War: October 26,1861-June 12,1865.Sgt.,Co G,9th Cav.,92nd Regt.,Pa.Vol.In numerous battles in Tennesee. Injured left elbow in fall from horse in eastern Tn. I am quoting from the Army of the United States Certificate of Disability Discharge. John was transported from New Bern N.C. and admitted April 7,1865 to McDougall General Hospital,Fort Schuyler,N.Y. Wounded in action at Black River N.C. March 16,1865 by Minie ball. “Soldier's own statement”. Signed and dated May 29,1865 by Adjutant Surgeon ,USA. Discharged June 12,1865 at McDougall General Hospital,Fort Schuyler, N.Y. Again signed by Adjutant Surgeon ,USA.
Letter of War Department, Surgeon General's Office dated Wahington,D.C. April 18,1870. Record and pension division. John Kemmerly was admitted to Frankfort Hospital, “Ben De Ford” April 6,1865 from Hatteras Inlet. Transferred April 8,1865 to McDougall General Hospital, Wounded in action at Black River N.C. March 16,1865 by Minie ball.Wounded in hip,Averysboro,N.C.March 16, 1865.Discharged McDougall General Hospital Fort Schuyler,N.Y.Paralysed lower limbs; $74.00 pension.Married January 16,1855 by Rev. Strine, German Lutheran, Lancaster County,Pa.
