JOSEPH R. SMITH DIES WEDNESDAY EVENING AT HIS HOME IN PETOSKEY
Joseph R. Smith, resident of Petoskey for many years, passed away at his home at 303 West Lake Street, Wednesday evening. He was 80 years of age and had been in poor health for some time.
Mr. Smith was born at Pleasant Mills, Indiana, March 12, 1855, and married Eleanor Hendricks at Monroe, Indiana, February 13, 1881. They came to Petoskey in the autumn of 1898.
Mr Smith was employed by the Blackmer Pump Company and the Petoskey Electric Light Department for many years.
Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, Fred W. Smith, Petoskey; Seth B. Smith, Frankfort, and Melvin Smith, Kalamazoo; three Daughters, Mrs. Ray Brockway, Petoskey; Mrs Frank Young, Columbus, Ohio; and Mrs G.E. Klanderman, High Point, N. C., and three sisters, Mrs. Lydia E. McBarnes, Pleasant Mills, Ind.; Mrs. Samantha Andrews, Monroe, Ind., and Mrs S. D. Beavers, Decatur, Indiana.
The Rev. John Ross, Pastor of Parr Memorial Baptist Church, will have charge of the funeral, the hour of which has not yet been decided upon, and burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery
