Served as a Confederate Soldier and surrendered at Pettersberg, Virginia in April of 1865. He filed for his pension at Goreee, Texas, at the of of 90 years. He moved to Knox County in 1908. Mr. Rawlins entered the militarty at Martinsburg, Virginia. He served four years. He enlisted in the spring of 1861 and was discharged in the spring of 1865.
Company C, Captain Nadenbush, Second Virginia Infantry; Stonewall Jackson's original division; after his death to General Early.
Comptroller records show that Joseph R. Rawlins has not been found on the muster rolls of any organizsation of Infantry, State of Virgina, CSA, designated Company C, 2nd Regiment.
The records show that one Joseph E. Rawlins, Company A, 2nd Virginia Infantry, CSA enlisted 18 April 1861 at Jeff. C.H. Medical records show he was admitted to Chimborazo Hospital at RIchmond, Virginia on 28 May 1864 with a wound on his right leg. His name appears on a receipt roll for clothing on 16 June 1864.

January 13, 1932, the Comproller decided that Joseph R. Rawlins was eligible for a pension if he was still alive.
