Mrs. Ann Bailey, age 75, of Rome went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, January 26, 2012.

Mrs. Bailey, the former Treasure Ann Thompson was born in Floyd County, January 27, 1936, daughter of the late Choice Stillwell Parker Thompson, and Roy D. Thompson. She was married to Herbert Bailey on July 3, 1954, who preceded her in death June 11, 2009.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and grandparents, Walter and Dollie Stillwell; and two infant children, Stephen Herbert and Leigh Ann.

For a number of years, Mrs. Bailey owned the Bailey Window Decorating Service and prior to that was employed with the General Electric Company.

Mrs. Bailey was active in civic and political affairs for many years. She is past president of the Rome-Floyd County Humane Society. She started working to build a two-party system in Georgia in 1960 and spent a good part of over thirty years serving in one capacity or another in the Republican Party. She was chairperson of the Rome-Floyd County Republican Party when the first woman was elected to the Floyd County Board of Commissioners in the history of Floyd County and first Republican in over 100 years was elected to that Board. She had served as First Vice-Chairwoman of the Seventh District Republican party, Treasurer of the Georgia Republican Women's Federation and for a number of years, served as a member of the Georgia Republican State Committee, and served on the Senate Intern Selection Committee. She managed the campaigns of a number of local Republican candidates and was local campaign manager for several district, state and national Republican candidates.

Mrs. Bailey was a member of the Hollywood Baptist Church where she served as Prayer Ministry Leader, Altar Counselor Coordinator, a former member of the adult choir, a member of the Amazing Grace Sunday School Class. Mrs. Bailey loved her church.

Mrs. Bailey enjoyed oil painting and all sorts of crafts and loved cooking, gardening and working in her home.

Mrs. Bailey is survived by a brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Herschel and Christine Bailey, and Mary Pitts; nieces and nephews; one aunt Minnie Stillwell; special cousins, Jeanette Stillwell, Felice Brunner and Nell and Wesley Willis; other cousins, special friends, and church family.

Graveside and interment will be conducted at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, January 29 at East View Cemetery, with Rev. David Harper officating. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m., Sunday, January 29 at Parnick Jennings, Sr.'s Good Shepherd Funeral Home, 2750 Shorter Ave. Rome, Ga. 30165.

Parnick Jennings, Sr.'s Good Shepherd Funeral Home has charge of services for Mrs. Ann Bailey.
