Wilber was single, with three years of high school, when he joined the Army on 6 Feb 1942 at Fort Bragg. He served with the 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division and was killed in action on D-Day + 11. Serial # 34178945

Corporal Wilber Ray Jones (Service # 34178945) is the son of Everett Jones [b.1887 in NC] a farmer and the son of Chloe Jones [b.10-17-1888 and died April, 1982].

The 1930 US Census for Averasboro, Harnett County, North Carolina shows Wilber residing with his parents and 5 sisters, Naomi [b.1913] Mallie [b.1915] Elsie M [b.1923] Burnice [b.1924] Dallie L [b.1926] and 3 brothers, Everett Thenton Jones [b.5-13-1916 and died 2-8-1988] Thomas [b.1921] and Charles [b.1929].

Cpl Jones enlisted in the Army on Feb 6, 1942 at Fort Bragg, NC. His enlistment record states Wilber had completed 3 years of high school.

Cpl Jones was awarded the Purple Heart Medal and the Croix de Guerre Unit Citation.
