From the Monroe Evening News, December 29, 1932:

Carleton, Dec. 29 -- Funeral services for Mrs. Ellen Ash, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Woodward, pioneers in Carleton vicinity, were held at 2 p.m. today at the Woodmere Methodist Episcopal Church in Detroit after brief services at the Graham funeral home in Detroit. Mrs. Ash died at 12:30 a.m. Tuesday at the home of her son, Robert Earl Ash, in Detroit after a long illness.
She was born in Exeter township on November 13, 1863, and spent her early years in Carleton and vicinity. She married John A. Ash of Huron township in Wayne county and after living in Waltz for a year, moved to Detroit. Mr. Ash died April 10, 1928.
Mrs. Ash is survived by three sons, Fred, Lester and Robert Earl, all of Detroit; one grand-daughter Esther who has made her home with her since childhood and four brothers, William Woodward of Monroe, Clark T. Woodward, Frank Woodward and Reid Woodward, all of Carleton. There are four grandchildren and two great grandchildren surviving.
Burial was to be in the family plot in Carleton cemetery.
