Mable and James Luther Norman were married on Christmas Eve 1910. Grandma Norman was a little woman and she got older she became even shorter. She was born in Illinois, moved to Iowa then to Missouri where her mother died and then back to Illinois. Grandma was a Cooper; her cousins still live in Missouri. I had the opportunity to visit her Mother's, my great grandmother's burial place.

Grandma Norman was the disciplinarian in the family, probably because Grandpa wouldn't. Mom said they had a little dog when she was little and a salesman came by one day and Grandma sold the dog to him, probably because she needed the money for necessities for the family. As long as I knew grandma, she was faithful to church. She spoke quietly, the longer the conversation, the softer her voice became. That used to irritate Dad to no end. In later years Grandma Norman kept a diary, I have one of them. She always wrote about the weather, the family, and how good God was to her. She seldom had an unkind word to say about anyone. Grandma didn't have much; they never owned a house and moved often.
When I was sixteen I drove my new old 35 Chevrolet down to Vandalia to see grandma. She told me how nice it was. About that time Louise and Burl came driving in with their brand new Studebaker, after they left Grandma told me my car was just as nice as their new one. She had a way of making you feel special but I knew I wasn't her favorite, I'm not sure she had favorites, but there were those grandchildren who were around more. I didn't spend time with Grandpa and Grandma Norman like we did Grandma Fair, because she and grandpa never lived as close to us.
