Jack Ater

Former service station mechanic and taxi driver Maynard Jackson Ater, 76, of Paris died Friday, June 13, 2014, at Henry County Medical Center.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at McEvoy Funeral Home.

Joyce McNeal of Old Landmark Church will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. Tuesday.

Born Dec. 18, 1937, in Ross County, Ohio, he was a son of the late Clarence and Ora Burlile Ater.

His wife, Lillian Johnson Ater, preceded him in death.

Ater served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Army Reserve from 1957-1963. He was a former mechanic at Page's Mobile Service Station and also worked for Yellow Cab, both formerly of Paris. He attended Old Landmark Church.

He leaves one daughter: Lora Ater Blanchard of Ohio; three sisters: Louella Turberville, Karen Neiberline and Joy Poole, all of Ohio; two brothers: Ben and Floyd Ater, both of Ohio; one grandchild: John Blanchard of Ohio; and a special friend: Laura Brown of Paris.

He also was preceded in death by four sisters: Mary Katherine Stoker, Pauline and Patricia Ater and Annalee Blazer; and two brothers: James and Harry Ater.

Funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at McEvoy Funeral Home with Pastor Joyce McNeal officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery in Paris. Visitation is scheduled after 9:00 A.M. on Tuesday prior to service time.

Mr. Ater is survived by his daughter: Lora Ater Blanchard of Ohio; three sisters: Louella Turberville, Karen Neiberline and Joy Poole, all of Ohio; two brothers: Ben and Floyd Ater, both of Ohio; a grandson: John Blanchard of Ohio and special friend: Laura Brown of Paris, TN.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Clarence and Ora Burlile Ater; his wife: Lillian Johnson Ater; four sisters: Mary Katherine Stoker, Pauline Ater, Annalee Blazer, and Patricia Ater; two brothers: James and Henry Ater.
