Herbert Hamilton Sanders 1930-2009
Herbert Hamilton Sanders, 78, of Mill Creek, Lake Texoma, passed away on Feb. 8, 2009.
Herb was born on May 25, 1930 in Dallas. He grew up in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas. He graduated from Sunset High School and attended Southern Methodist University. He served in the U.S. Navy. He worked at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for 31 years. At Southwestern Bell he began as a lineman and worked his way to management supervisor in the downtown Dallas Division. He also worked for many years as a football official for the Southwest Football Official's Association.
After retirement he worked as a volunteer librarian at the Pottsboro Library. Herb worked as a volunteer tutor to children with reading and math skills problems. He was a member of the Lakeway Methodist Church in Pottsboro. He was an avid gardener and a published writer for the Texas Folklore Society. He also received the Paul Harris Award from the Rotarians.
He was a loving, devoted, and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather to his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Patricia Wallace Sanders. He is also survived by his son Kim Sanders and wife Martha Sanders; son Christopher Sanders and grandson Zachary Sanders; grandson Joel Sanders and wife Barbara Sanders, and great-grandson Austin; daughter-in-law Tina Sanders; his sister Laveta Pettit and husband Robert Pettit. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and good friends.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11 at the Johnson-Moore Pottsboro Chapel, 511 F.M. 996, Pottsboro. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Visions of Sugar Plums, 21 Whispering Rd., Pottsboro, TX 75076.
