Mr. William "Billy Guy" Akers Sr., 84, of Whiteside, MO, passed away on Sunday, September 16, 2012 at his residence. He was born on March 31, 1928 in Eolia, the first child born to Thomas and Lottie (Dameron) Akers. Billy had four siblings: Jimmy, John Frank, Roland and Ruby. Billy attended the local schools in Eolia and lived about five miles outside of town. For several years, he rode a horse to school. As he got older, this love of horses was in his blood. He had Quarter horses and Belgian horses when he was married. Billy Guy married Doris Johnson on September 20, 1958 at Second Baptist Church in Bowling Green. They were blessed with a son, Bill. Billy Guy worked as a carpenter before retiring and had been a member of the Carpenters Union No. 1008. When he was a young man, he was called to serve in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Okinawa. During his adult life, he especially enjoyed riding on his orange Allis-Chalmers' tractors. He also raised shorthorn registered cattle. Some of his hobbies included going to auctions and buying tractors, implements and tools. He always told his wife that "He had been everywhere and seen everything that he wanted to see."
Surviving are his beloved wife, Doris of 54 years of marriage; his son, Bill Akers Jr. of Fulton; his brother, Roland and wife Mae Akers of Whiteside and his sister, Ruby and husband Jack Altizer of Bowling Green; his sister-in-law: Barbara Akers of Old Alexandria; and his two adoring grandchildren: Taylor Ann Akers and Matthew William Akers; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Billy Guy was preceded in death by his parents and his two brothers: Jimmy and his wife, Betty Ann Akers and John Frank Akers.
A memorial service to be held on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the McCoy-Blossom Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Eolia.
Visitation to be held also Thursday from 9a.m.-11a.m. time of service at the McCoy-Blossom Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Eolia. Chaplain Dinah Sutton to officiate.
