(January 29, 1913 - June 5, 2012)
Mrs. Lucille Adams, 99, of Troy, MO passed away on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at Troy Manor. She was the youngest child born to John and Nettie Mae VanBeber on Jan. 29, 1913 in Galena, KS. Lucille attended the local schools with her siblings: Ethel, Charles, George, Jerry, Alvine and Bill. Her father worked in the mines and was tragically killed in a mining accident when Lucille was a young child. The family lived on a farm just outside Salem. At the age of 14, they all moved to St. Louis and Lucille got a job working for the Mallinckrodt Corp, later at the Small Arms Plant during WWII and then the U.S. Record Center on Page Ave. Lucille was a go-getter and she made things happen. She always loved to bake and opened her own wedding cake business in the Overland area, called, "Lucille's Cakes". Everything she did was done with enthusiasm and great care. She and her husband had a gospel radio show called "The Gospel Four". She also wrote gospel music and played the guitar at her church. Lucille was one of a kind. Hard work was no stranger to her. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Surviving are her loving daughter, Jean Huffman; her grandchildren: Kenneth, Connie and Gale; plus a number of great, grandchildren and one great, great-grandson.
