He was a 30 year retired Navy Veteran. He first enlisted in 1923. He was called back up into the service from retirement on Oct. 21, 1950 during the Koren crisis and was separated from the service again Oct. 21, 1952. He completed 30 years of service on Sept. 29, 1953 he served on, the Aircraft Carrier USS Enterprise, during WWII. The ship had been out on maneuvers and on their way back into port in Honolulu. They were sitting about 100 to 150 miles out to sea waiting for the tugs to come get them when they heard the attack on their radios. There was nothing they could do. They were completely out of fuel from the maneuvers and couldn't even launch a single plane to help.

This is my great Uncle Gussy. His sister Meta Emma (nee Munkenbeck) Grady - Bartlett was my grandmother. Other Siblings are; Bernard, Theresa, Evelyn, and, Velaria.
