The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Sergeant Steve G. Danysch (ASN: 106938), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 4th Machine-Gun Battalion, 2d Division, A.E.F., south of Soissons, France, 19 July 1918. Having received a severe wound in the head, Sergeant Danysch refused to be evacuated and continued to lead his platoon with great bravery until he fell unconscious. He died from his wounds several days later.
