Mary was born in Marion and married Robert F. Burke, Sr. on April 5, 1942 in Wabash. They were partners in life for more than 68 years and long time residents of Marion, Indiana.
Mary Alice was proud of being a great-great niece of Carry A. Nation, famous activist from the Women's Christian Temperance Union movement in the early 1900's, who was known for marching into a bar, singing and praying, smashing bar fixtures and stock with a hatchet and carrying a Bible. She was co-owner along with her husband Robert, of ABC Collections Agency for more than forty years. She also owned The Alley Cat Collectibles. During her life she was active in several organizations, served as President of the 11th Airborne Angelettes, a WWII Veteran's organization, was a member of Marion Chamber of Commerce and the South Marion Businessmen's Association. She was also a board member of the Grant County Rescue Mission and a long-time member of former Grace United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Robert F. Burke, Sr., Marion; daughter, Nancy A. (Richard) Ray, Venice, Fla.; son, Robert F. (Darlene) Burke, Jr., Valrico, Fla.; grandchildren, Robert F. (Shasta) Burke III, Plainfield, Ill., Robin Gonsalves, Urbana, Ohio, Jerry (Lisa) Hodge, Woodleaf, N.C., Jacquline (Don) Ide, Bradenton, Fla,, Jill (Tim) Hurley, Ellenton, Fla., Melissa (Tom) Powell, Lewisburg, Tenn., and Jason (Tracey) Burke, Gulfport, Miss.; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Ethel (Mills) Wilson, a son, James A. Burke, half-sisters Evangeline Wilson and Marion Ott Wood Smith, and half-brothers, Aron Douglas Ott and Stephen S. Ott.
