Caleb H. Reames, 71 years old, 3108 East Twenty-fifth Street, died at 10 o'clock last night. Paralysis caused his death. He leaves a widow and these seven children, all residents of Kansas City; Mrs. W.H. Ward, Mrs. E.Y. Parker, Mrs. S.A. Minsker, E.E., Roy, Charles and Ralph Reames.
CALEB HARVEY REAMES was the second son of 9 children (4 boys, 5 girls) born to John Henry Howard Reames and Mary W. McDonald Reames. He married Lucy Ann Henning August 13, 1862 and they had 9 children (5 boys, 4 girls). He originally was a carriage maker.
He entered the Civil War as a private in Company C, Ohio 17th Infantry Regiment on 2 Sep 1861 (enlisted just before his 19th birthday on Feb 9, 1861). Transferred into 1st Veteran Engineers Regiment Regular Army on 25 Aug 1864.
He mustered out as a Corporal of Captain A. A. Olcott's Co. C, 1st Regiment of U. S. Veteran Engineer Volunteers on 26 Sept 1865 at Nashville, Tennessee. An invalid's pension was filed 18 Jan 1889 in Kansas. A Widow's pension was filed in Missouri by his wife, Lucy A. (Henning) Reames on 5 Mar 1913, shortly after his death in Feb 1913.
