Funeral services James Atchley will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at the First Baptist Church of Davis with Brother Clay Shannon officiating. Interment will follow at the Green Hill Cemetery in Davis.

James was born on Feb 25, 1947 in Roosevelt, to the late Bennie & Dorothy (Harper) Atchley. He died Sunday, July 3, 2011, surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with cancer. James and Ernestine Goshen were married on July 10, 1981 in Davis.

Simple words on a page could never do justice to the life of James Atchley. He had a heart that was truly beyond measure. His entire goal in life was to help others. Rather it be through the Davis Fire Department or his employment with the City of Davis, day or night, James was always willing to help others in need.

James spent 25 years volunteering with the Davis Fire Department. Throughout his years with the fire department, he and the others that he served with formed a bond that James held very dear to his heart. He never missed an opportunity to be with his brothers of the department, who referred to his as "Waldo" or "Pappy". James was also a dedicated employee for the City of Davis for some 35 years. He enjoyed being with his co-workers and formed quite the relationship with them as well. James was always willing to do what was asked of him, anytime the request came.

James had a great love for his family. Being with them every chance he had became a priority in his life. "Pap", as his kids and grandkids referred to him as, was always available to help, love and share in each of their lives.

James was a diehard, true to the heart, Davis Wolf football fan. In the past 35 years, he actually only missed two Davis football games. One of those games was during a hospital stay. However, with the help of cells phones, James listened to the entire game and cheered his Wolves on to another victory. Even a hospital bed could not prevent his support. The other missed game came when a local drug store was destroyed by fire. Although loyalty to the Wolves was important, James once again was needed, and as we all know, other's needs was where his heart was.

A few of James' hobbies included fishing, working with wood and welding. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Davis.

James is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Ernestine; three daughters, Terry Adams & Tina Thomasson, both of Davis and LeeAnn Nations of Valliant; three sons, Allen Richards of Madill, and Robert Richards and Chipper Kirby, both of Davis; eleven grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; five sisters, Phyllis Conry, Helen Richards & Wilma Brantley, all of Davis, Ozie Bryant of Midwest City and Sharon Ingram of Paoli; three brothers, Charles Atchley of Pampa, Texas, John Atchley of Oklahoma City and Virgil Atchley of Davis; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

James was preceded in death by his parents and on brother, Bennie Atchley in 1993.
Serving as Pallbearers will be the employees of the City of Davis. Honorary bearers will be the members of the Davis Fire Department.
