MCCONNELSVILLE: Jerry C. Bachelor, 79, of Zanesville, died at 3:30 p.m., April 6, 2011, in Zanesville, following a short illness.

Born November 30, 1931, in Morgan County, Jerry was a graduate of 1950 Class of M&M High School. Following his graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps serving some three years overseas in the Korean War with the 2nd Battalion of the 3rd Marines. During his services, Jerry received various awards and commendations.
Jerry was a retired truck driver, amassing over one million accident free miles for B&L Motor freight in Newark and Signal Motor Freight of Columbus. Jerry's career also included work as an owner operator of his own trucks and driving for Finley Packing Plant of McConnelsville and Broughton Dairy.

An avid sports fan, Jerry supported the Ohio State Buckeyes and many local sports teams. He excelled in bowling, competing in the Peterson Classic in Chicago and on various local leagues. For many years he also played golf in local leagues and coached youth football in the McConnelsville area. Throughout his youth and service in the Marines, he played baseball and was a great fan of the Cincinnati Reds. He was a 50 year member of the Valley Lodge F&AM of Malta: American Legion Post 24 of McConnelsville: the Teamsters Local 413 of Newark, and the Malta United Methodist Church in Malta. He is survived by his wife, Barbara G. (Newton) Bachelor, whom he married in 1954; daughter, Becky L. Randolph; son in law, Craig Randolph; grandson, Jerry C. Rudolph; and great grandson, Aiden.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Peggy Sue; his mother, Marie Bucher; step father, Dick Bucher; father, Harold Bachelor; and grandmother, McAtee.

Friends may call 4 to 8p.m., Friday, April 8, 2011, at the Miller-Huck Funeral Home in McConnelsville. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 9, 2011, at the funeral home with Reverend Bill Bentley officiating. Burial with military rites by the Morgan County Veterans will be in the McConnelsville Cemetery.
