LaMotte Bulldozer Operator Killed By Falling Tree
MAQUOKETA, Ia. -- Harry Bartels, 36, of route 2, LaMotte, was killed about 4:30 p m Tuesday when a tree struck him in the head while he was bulldozing scrub timber on the Albert Edwards farm near Emeline, 15 miles northwest of here.
Bartles farmed near Otter Creek in addition to his bulldozing operations.
Jackson County Coroner Dr. Warren Zabloudil of Preston stated that there would be no inquest. The body was taken to the Carson Funeral Home, Maquoketa. Surviving are his wife and two small children.
Services for Mr. Bartels will be at 1:30 pm Friday at the Carson Funeral Home at Maquoketa. The Rev. Harold Krumpf, pastor of the Lutheran church, will officiate. Burial will be in Buckhorn Cemetery.
He was born Jan. 28, 1919, at Nashville, west of Maquoketa, a son of Harry and Christine Bartels. He married Catherine Kedley Feb. 10, 1944.
Surviving are his wife; two sons, Donald and Dean; his mother of near Maquoketa; a brother, Carl of near Maquoketa; and two sisters, Mrs. Irene Thordsen of Monmouth, Ia., and Mrs. Velma Yarolem of Maquoketa.
