Betty Louise Blakemore died of failing health on Saturday, June 30th at the Christian Living Communities facilities in Denver, Colorado, where she had been a Resident Manager and a resident. She was 87 years of age.
Betty, daughter of Archibald and Leona Mansfield, was born in Depew, Oklahoma on November 22, 1924. Betty, her parents and younger sister Patsy settled in Madill, OK, where she graduated from high school. Betty married Wilburn Earl (Webb) Blakemore, also of Madill, on September 6, 1946.
Shortly after their marriage, Webb joined the US Air Force. During his 22 year career, Webb became a missile man and rose to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer. The Blakemore family served at air bases in Hahn, Germany; Biloxi, Mississippi; Great Falls, Montana; Cape Cod, Massachusetts; and Coco Beach, Florida.
In each assignment Betty was an active member of the community serving in leadership. Attributed to Betty is her upbeat and positive attitude in enduring many moves, her husband's deployments, and the other rigors of military life in the 1950s and 1960s. In addition to being a great military wife and nurturing mother of three daughters, Betty was a skilled seamstress.
The Blakemores settled in Colorado Springs upon Webb's retirement from active duty in 1968. Betty began working in retail sales and during her career would work at Arlan's, Lily Rubin, Casual Corner, and the Dress Barn. Several years after her husband's death in 1981 from cancer, Betty and her sister, Patsy Soliday, opened their own aerobics and dance apparel stores in Colorado Springs and Colombia, Missouri.
Betty moved to Denver in 1999 and first lived at Remington Place. She moved to Christian Living Communities in southeast Denver, becoming a Resident Manager from 2005 until she gave up the position because of failing health in 2010.
Betty is survived by her sister, Patsy Soliday and her daughters: Denecia Davis, Marcia Schultz and Jani Boyd. Additionally, she is survived by seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Betty will be interned next to her late husband in Evergreen Cemetery in Colorado Springs in the morning on Thursday, July 5th. There will be a memorial service at the Christian Living Communities facility later that afternoon.
Betty leaves a legacy of loving her Lord, being continually upbeat, sharing unconditional love, and tenaciously achieving her life goals and dreams.
In lieu of flowers, Betty's daughters ask that donations be made in Betty's name to the Clermont Park Staff Appreciation Fund at Christian Living Communities, 2479 South Clermont, Denver, CO 80222.
