Evelyn Amar Chustz died of natural causes at St. Clare Nursing Home on Saturday, Aug. 4, 2007. She was born on Oct. 30, 1906, in Pointe Coupee Parish, to Pauline Barra and Lopez Amar. She married Eugene Lawrence Chustz, and to them were born 10 children: six girls and four boys. They moved the family to Baton Rouge in 1951. Two years later, Lawrence died in an electrical accident, leaving Evelyn with seven dependent children. To provide for her large family, Evelyn became a cook at St. Francis Xavier, the school her younger children were attending. Additionally, she drew income from sewing for others. Evelyn took pleasure in her various jobs and formed many solid friendships along the way. A devout Catholic, Evelyn remained a member of St. Francis Xavier Parish for many years before she joined St. Agnes. Although no one knows the origin of her nickname, Evelyn was affectionately known to many family and friends as "Tose," "Mama Tose" or "Tante Tose."

Evelyn is survived by eight children, Trina Ricard, Roger Chustz, Barbara Chustz, Clyde Chustz, Georgia Chustz Roudeze, Rita Chustz Jones, Elaine Chustz Green and Theodore Chustz. Also carrying on her legacy are 18 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence; son, Lawrence, Jr.; daughter, Una Ricard; granddaughter, Paula Ricard; and parents and nine siblings.

Visitation at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 749 East Blvd., until service. Celebration of the Mass will be shared by the Most Rev. John H. Ricard, Bishop of Pensacola, and the Rev. Monsignor Robert Berggreen, pastor of St. Agnes. Interment in Immaculate Conception Parish Cemetery, Chenal. Arrangements by Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St.

Obituary published in The Advocate from 8/9/2007 - 8/10/2007.
