Donald C. Hill, son of Peter and Lydia Dudgeon Hill, was born on March 31, 1902 on a farm in Lincoln township, Adams County, Iowa. He died May 10 at the Bishop-Clarkson Hospital in Omaha at the age of seventy-eight years, one month and nine days. His death was sudden, due to heart failure.
In 1902 he moved with his family from the farm in Lincoln township to the present farm home north of Corning.
He was united in marriage with Leta Buxton of Lenox, Iowa at Mankato, Minn. on September 28, 1925. They farmed the family homestead for fourteen years.
In 1938 he established the Corning Locker Service. He was actively involved in the operation of both the farm and the Corning Meat Processing Plant at the time of his death. Mr.Hill was an elder in the First Presbyterian Church, president of the Adams Mutual Insurance Association and was an early member and past president of the Corning Rotary Club.
He is survived by his wife, Leta of Corning, two daughters, Marian Champ and husband John of Waterloo, and Marleta Matheson and husband Charles of Cedar Falls, four grandchildren, Brian Champ of Davenport, Stephen Champ of McCook, NE, Mrs. Robert (Barbara) Holzapfel of Waterloo. Laura Matheson of Hollywood, Calif.;three great grandchildren, Ben and Heather Champ and Janie Holzapfel, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Hill was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Mabel Shaw, Agnes Saunders and Grace Tripp.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 13 at the First Presbyterian Church in Corning with the Reverend W. H.Sinnning officiating. The congregation sang "A Mighty Fortress is Our God" and "Come Christians join to Sing." Organist was Dorothy Cook. A memorial was established for the church.
Casket bearers were Howard Cooley, Jim Kearns, Lloyl Norcross, Francis Retland, Harry Grundman and Ted Turner.
Internment was in the Walnut Grove Cemetery at Corning.
The Larkin-Roland Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
