Kathryn E. Burke, 91 years of age, of Adams, Nebraska passed away at the Gold Crest retirement Center in Adams on Sunday morning, March 24, 2002. She was born on September 9, 1910 near Adams and lived in the Adams area her entire life. She was a 1928 graduate of Adams High School. She married Edward J. Burke on February 27, 1929. They farmed southwest of Adams until they moved into Adams in 1969. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Adams and was a past member of the Beatrice Quilters Guild. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, reading, doing word puzzles, playing cards, and cooking.
Survivors include her daughter Mary Lee Kroese of Lincoln; grandchildren Denise Lee Wolff and her husband Bob of Sterling, K. Dean Kroese of Adams, Bryan Kroese on Lincoln, David Burke and his wife Rae Jean of Buffalo, Oklahoma, Daniel Burke and his wife Karen of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Doctors Diane and Mark Chaney of Riverside, Illinois; 8 great grandchildren; daughter in law Verona Burke of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and 1 niece. She was preceded in death by her parents William and Mary (Murphy) Conn, husband Edward J. Burke (July 18, 1985), son James Burke, infant son Donald Dean Burke, grandson Don Burke, and brother Preston Conn.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 27, 2002 in the First United Methodist Church in Adams with Reverend Robert Visscher officiating. Interment will be in the Highland Cemetery in Adams. The body will lie in state Tuesday from 2:00 - 9:00 and Wednesday from 8:00 -Noon at the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in Adams and at the church one hour preceding the service. A family prayer service will be held at 1:45 P.M. Wednesday in the basement of the church. A memorial has been established to the church with Kent Krause in charge.
