Benjamin Franklin Black, b 3 Apr. 1856 Freestone Co., was the youngest son of Benjamin Blair Black (b 27 Oct. 1808 Ky.) and Jane Little. His parents preempted land on the south side of Keechi Creek between Turlington and Lanely in 1851, coming to Tex. from Calhoun Co., Ala. His older brothers married soon after coming to Texas; so the job of helping the father with the farm fell to Ben and his two brothers, Tobe and Wiley. On 6 Sept. 1881 he m. Sallie Ann Delarm, b 13 Dec. 1861, III., daughter of Pierre and Martha (Hunt) Delarm. Her parents died at Marshall, Tex. between 1870 and 1872. She was living with the W.C. Snider family at Lanely. For a wedding present the elder Benjamin gave his son 220 acres near Burleson Hill, between Dew and Lanely. Since both Sallie and Ben were hard workers, their farm prospered. He had purchased the Snider farm and planned to build a house there when he took pneumonia and died on 31 Jan. 1885, leaving his wife and 3 small children: Agnes Gertrude, Alma Irene, and William Dial. He was buried at Harrison Chapel. After a year, Sallie m. George Taylor Evans, a widower. Sallie d. in Teague 3 Aug. 1940 and is buried at Dew.
