WAR OF 1812

========================

Frederick Barnard's birth was recorded as 1773 in Nantucket, MA to Benjamin and Eunice nee Fitch Barnard.

As the Revolutionary War was beginning many Quakers migrated away from Massachusetts to escape the war and blockades & went to North Carolina. The Gardners, Coffins, Macys, Davises and Barnards traveled to Guilford Co. NC.

Frederick married 9 Jul 1795 JUDITH GARDNER 1774-1805 at Monthly Meeting (MM)-New Garden in Greensboro, Guilford Co. NC. She was the d/o Barzillai (Jemima Macy) Gardner 1753-1829. They had 3 children: 1. Lydia, 2. Frederick Jr., 3. Jemima. Right before she died, Judith transferred to Greene Co. NC (which became Jefferson Co. TN).

After her death, Fred moved again & married ELIZABETH DAVIS on 24 Sep 1806 at MM-Lost Creek in Greene Co. NC, now Jefferson Co. TN.

In spite of his religion, Fred joined the militia and was disowned. Since Elizabeth had married him, she was disowned as well. A few months later they migrated to Highland Co. Ohio, another Quaker community. Daughter Judith Barnard was born here in 1808. This agrees with the 1850 Census where her father is living with them aged 77 yrs. It looks like they had 7 children: 1. Judith, 2. Lucinda, 3. Jane, 4. Benjamin, 5. Matilda, 6. Hulda, 7. Sylvanus b. 1830. Finally, the family migrated to the Quaker area of Monrovia, Monroe Twp, Morgan Co. Indiana.

They were evidently reinstated because so many of the family are buried in West Union Cemetery. The cemetery is located beside the West Union Friends Meeting church.
