Freda graduated from Grand River schools and was in 4-H and played trombone in the band. She graduated from Grand River High School in 1934. After she and Maurice were married, she worked as a bookkeeper at an implement store and garage. When the children were born, she stayed home and took care of them. They had three sons: Condon, Rolan and Roger.
She enjoyed crocheting, listening to country music, flowers, watching birds and making Christmas candy. She and Maurice also enjoyed spending the winter in Arizona for many years. She worked at various businesses in Osceola including Rindy's Grocery Store and Casey's General Stores.
