Norman J. Cave Sr., 101, of Cook, passed away on Thursday January 27, 2011, at the Cook Nursing Home with family by his side.
He was born on October 6, 1909 in Frontier, MN the son of Joseph and Harriet (Humphrey) Cave. He grew up in Frontier/ Baudette area, and moved to Michigan with his family at age of 12. He was united in marriage to Ilah J. Mills on June 15, 1930, at South Branch, Michigan. They lived in Spooner, Minnesota from 1935 to 1943. Norman and Ilah have resided in the Cook area since in 1943. Norman was a truck driver for 12 years and a sawyer for 14 years. He also held several other jobs including working for the railroad along with farming. He retired from the Hills Cedar Mill in 1972. Norman was affectionately known by the nickname of "Stormin' Norman". Norman was an institution around Cook, and is well known for his cruises on the streets with his battery powered cart. Even at -40 in the winter he could be seen heading to the Montana Café. He loved to garden, was talented at woodworking and was a great fiddler. He will always be remembered for his great smile and a firm hand shake. He was well loved by family, friends and the community, and will be sadly missed.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife of 72 years, Ilah on January 5, 2003; a daughter in law-Patricia Cave; a son in law Erwin Erickson; two granddaughters; Tara Cave Knutson and Tammy Cave Nolan; 3 brothers and 5 sisters.
Norman is survived by five sons: Norman Cave Jr., Daniel (Karen) Cave, Wayne ( Nancy) Cave, Gerald (Lucy) Cave, and Terry (Joyce) Cave; 2 daughters: Harriet Erickson and Joyce (Henry) Drieman, 24 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
