Leslie G. Arvila, 66, of Field Township near Cook, died Wednesday, August 17, 2005, at his residence. He was born on August 4, 1939, at Vermilion Dam,; the son of Axel and Hulda (Lindgren) Arvila. As a child he moved with his family to the Cook area. Les graduated from the Cook High School in 1957, and enlisted in the Army. After his honorable discharge, he returned to the Cook area, where he owned and operated a Grade A Dairy farm, and also logged and did carpentry work. He married Mary Ann Peterson at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cook on September 17, 1960. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He enjoyed reading, playing cards, history, and spending time with his family and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; 1 daughter, Dawn (Troy) Simpson,; 3 sons, Dale (Karla) of Cook, Brad (Michelle) of Angora; and Scott (Becky) of New London, Mn.; 2 brothers, Arvid (Greta) Arvila of Grand Blanc, MI., and John (Mary) Arvila of Inver Grove Heights, MN.,; 2 sisters, Eileen (Stuart) Anderson of Montville, N.J., and Elva (Carl) Williams of Binghamton, N.Y.,; 7 Grandchildren: Bo, Brenna, and Brynn Simpson, Colton and Lauren Arvila, and Samantha and Seth Arvila., ; 1 sister-in-law, Blanche Jacobson of Orr; 2 brothers-in-law, Leonard Peterson of Gheen and Everett Saatela of Orr,; and along with numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by 1 brother, Ray Arvila; 1 granddaughter, Brooke Simpson,; brother-in-law, Mel Jacobson, and sisters-in-law, Delores Saatela and Arlys Arvila.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cook. Rev. Melissa Stoller will be the officiant. A gathering of family and friends will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Kathy Forsline will be the soloist and Pam Ruuska will be the organist. The casket bearers will be: Dan Forsline, Charles Scott, Jim Enzmann, Marvin Pearson, Linus Brunner, and Butch Cottrell. The honorary bearers will be: Dan Ebnet, Tom Karakash, and Dan Rankin. Interment will be in the Field Township Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the Combined Honor Guards of the Orr American Legion and Cook VF.W. Arrangements are with the Mlaker Funeral Home in Cook.
