After tenant farming near Belmond, Iowa, he moved his family to a farm near Patterson, where he farmed for over 50 years.
Nyle and Shirley loved to ballroom dance, traveling throughout Iowa, Nebraska and Missouri. Nyle's passion was farming. He enjoyed John Deere tractors. "If it wasn't green, it wasn't mean."
