Birth: Mar. 18, 1848
Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany
Death: Jun. 22, 1937
Lyon County
Kansas, USA

Theodor was born in Castrop, Westphalia, Prussia, March 18, 1848, to Heinrich Wilhelm and Maria Catherine Sibbe Brinkmann. Theodor was the 9th of ten children.

On October 27, 1877, in Dortmund, Germany, Theodor married Fredericka Gertrude Voeste, the daughter of Frederick and Amalie Storchsdich Voeste. Fredericka had been born May 10, 1854, in Ende Bei Herdecke.

Theodor and Fredericka settled down in Germany where Theodor was classified as a master carpenter. They started their family there, then, presumably to avoid religious persecution, they emigrated with their three children to the United States. They came across on the ship Daniel Steinmann of the White Cross Line, departing from Antwerp, Belgium, on June 7, 1882. They had a difficult journey; evidently their ship had lost its propeller and floated helplessly for several days until it was rescued by a passing ship and towed into an American port. Once in the United States, they went directly to Decatur, Illinois, where their daughter Fredericka was born, then, in 1883, to Garnett, Kansas. Fredericka's brother, Theodor Voeste, urged them to come to Olpe, a rural area in need of a builder. They began the Golden Lion Hotel, completed in late 1885. Around 1907 they moved to a farm about one and a half miles west of Olpe. After a few years of farming they returned to Olpe where Theodor engaged in the hardware and implement business. Together they raised all twelve of their children to adulthood.

The Brinkmanns were among the original settlers of Olpe and helped to found St. Joseph's Catholic parish. He was a director of the Olpe State Bank, and they were considered prominent citizens. After 57 years of marriage, Fredericka passed away January 29, 1935, in Olpe and Theodor followed June 22, 1937. They are buried in Olpe.

**(The missing child in the list below is Nicholas Fred Brinkman who died in Evansville, Indiana in 1973. If you know his burial place, please let me know.)**
