H. E. Buskirk, Many Years an Invalid, Called

Rites Are Held Today for Well Known Farmer, Lifelong Stark County Resident

Elmer Buskirk, lifelong resident of Stark county and for many years a well known farmer residing southwest of Wyoming died Sunday, May 20, at 9 a. m. at the Florence Nursing Home in Toulon, where he had been a patient for a little more than a year.
Funeral services were held this afternoon at 2:30 at the Kidd funeral home in Toulon and were in charge of the Rev. Charles E. Withrow, pastor of the St. John's Methodist church, Peoria. The service of song was by C. P. Patterson and Mrs. Mason Williams, who sang "Rock of Ages and "The Old Rugged Cross," with Miss Irene Nowlan as piano accompanist. Burial was in Stringtown cemetery. The following served as pallbearers: Harold Ingram, Ralph M. Cox, Glenn Beall, Owen McGinnis, Elting Ratcliff and William Dutton.
During the last eighteen years of his life Mr. Buskirk, who previously had been a very active man and a successful farmer, was unable to work and during the last ten years of his life he was almost completely an invalid. His mind was active, however and he kept posted on current events in community, state and nation.
Elmer Buskirk will be remembered as a righteous citizen, a good father and an obliging neighbor. In politics, he was always a staunch Republican espousing sincerely the cause of the party, and always took a keen interest in party affairs. His was a sturdy character and he won and held many friends, by whom he will be greatly missed.

Hilas Elmer Buskirk, a son of Armstead Henderson and Margaret Ann Fisher Buskirk was born on Sept. 20 1865, at McArthur, Vinton County, Ohio. He lived in Ohio until 1890, when he came to Peoria county, later moving to Stark county, where he and since resided.
On October 12, 1889, he was united in marriage to Sara Jane Belford at McArthur, Ohio. To this union were born eight sons and three daughters.
He leaves six sons: Eldon Buskirk of Kewanee; Ray Buskirk and Fred Buskirk of Wyoming; Clarence Buskirk of Princeville; Verne and Donald Buskirk of San Diego, Calif., and two daughters, Mrs. Ethel Porter of Toulon and Mrs. Dayle Clark of Wyoming. Eighteen grandchildren also survive.
His wife preceded him in death on January 12, 1937, and two sons, Ralph Buskirk and Ira Everett Buskirk, who died in infancy and a daughter, Florence Ione, who died in infancy.
