The Fifth and Sixth.
Notwithstanding the inclement weather that usherd in then Fourth of July celebration, all events were pulled off in a satisfactory manner. It was not until Saturday afternoon that the weather cleared sufficiently to permit the program to be entered upon, the ball game being called at 3:30. To base ball enthusiasts it was a wait well worth the time, as those in attendance were rewarded by seeing the best game ever played in the San Juan. The game stood 2-2 until the last half of the ninth inning, when with Durango at the bat and two men out a wild throw by Lonergan let in the winning run.
The horse potato race was the exciting event of the day, the four contestants creating much merriment. Joe Caviness won the $15 purse.
