He joined the Navy in 1939 and served as a pharmacist's mate on the USS Enterprise during World War II. Anderson retired in 1976. He loved his many dachsunds always known as "hot dog." His interests included fishing, cooking, gardening and swimming and he loved to travel. His most favored places to go visit were New Orleans and Las Vegas but he never shied away from a cruise. His most enjoyment was spending time with his only daughter and her two daughters whom he enjoyed spoiling.
