Otmer James Davis, World War II veteran and purple heart recipient, died May 16, 2015 in the Stillwater Medical Center at the age of 92 Years.
The son of the late Thurman Otmer Davis (No. 61719728) and Nellie Mae Ernst Davis (No. 25706890). Otmer was born on Aug. 3 1922 in Glencoe and was raised and educated in Payne, Noble and Pawnee counties.
He joined the United States Army at the age of 16, serving with the 179th Infantry, 45th Division from 1940 until October of 1941. In April of 1942 he re-enlisted ending up in Liverpool. England in April of 1944 he was part of the invasion that landed on Omaha Beach in France when joint military forces went in to take France back from the Germans. He was with the 821st tank destroyer company C attached to the 9th Army under General Omar Bradley. On July 31, 1944 he was wounded in the head, spending four and a half months in the hospital in England.
He attended the Tri-County Church of Christ; was a member of the American Legion Post 108 and the V.F.W. during his time in the army, he received several medals, including the American Theatre pin; the Legion Caviler/Knight; the French European Campaign Medal; World War II medal; the European Theatre medal and a Purple Heart medal.
In addition to hi parents, he was preceded in death by one brother; five sisters and s brother-in -law, Garold Reed.
Funeral services were held May 20, 2015 in the Tri-County Church of Christ, Kyle Wright officiated. Burial followed in Fairlawn Cemetery
