Hillyard funeral services today
Ada E. Hillyard, 83, of Afton, died Sunday, Jan 31, 1982 at the home of her son in Salt Lake City.
Funeral Services will be held today, Thursday, Feb 4, at 1 p.m. in the Afton Second LDS Ward Chapel. The family will meet friends at the church form 12 noon to 1 p.m. prior to the funeral services.

Ada Hillyard services held

Ada Elizabeth Wood Hillyard, age 84, of Afton died Jan. 31, 1982, at Salt Lake City. Funeral services under the direction of Bp. J. Allen Lowe, were held Thursday, Feb.4, at 1 p.m. at the Afton Second ward LDS Chapel. Burial was in the Auburn Cemetery

Ada was born April, 19, 1897, at Auburn, the second child in a family of 13 children, to Daniel Thomas and Susie May Walton Wood. She attended school in Auburn and Star Valley High School in Afton.

She married Leslie Hillyard April 12, 1917 in the Logan LDS Temple. They made their home at Auburn. They were parents of six children.
Learning to cook at an early age she became proficient and worked as a cook at the Salt Lake LDS Temple, Auburn Elementary School, Star Valle High School, Silver Stream Café, and in her own home. Everyone was always fed well at her home.

She was a good seamstress and made many lovely quilts and afghans, making a quilt for each of her 25 grandchildren. She was a good neighbor and always showed love and compassion for her friends and neighbors.

Ada was an active member of the LDS Church and served in many positions in both ward and stake including Primary and Relief Society President. She served a full time mission in Texas, being released in June 1963. After returning from her mission she had her home moved from Auburn to Afton.

She is survived by six children: sons, Demar W. Hillyard, Auburn; Ronald W. Hillyard of Afton; Vern W. Hillyard and James W. Hillyard of Salt Lake City, daughters, Mrs. Byron M. (Gayle) Thurman and Mrs. Von (LaRue) Leavitt of Southern California; brothers, Jesse E. Wood of Murray, Utah; Don W Wood, Afton; Denzel W. Wood, Logan; G. Thomas Wood, Georgetown, Idaho; sisters, Mrs. Russell (Ila) Wilkes, Bedford; Mrs. Lula Griffith of Burbank, Calif.; Mrs. Dean (Elgin) Anderson, El Toro, Calif.; and 25 grandchildren.
