Dorothy Ida Pugh died Monday April 28,2003. She had been a resdient of the Stanton Nrsuing Home eight years.
She was born in Stanton March 7, 1907 to George and Rose (Carroll) Pugh and received her education in Stanton Public Schools, graduating in 1924.
She also attended the University of Nebraska affiiliated with Gamma Phi Beta and Pi Lambda Theta, an honorary. She was a Stanton County rural district teacher and later taught English, Latin and drama in Dorchester, NE.
She married Louis Smithberger Nov. 14, 1929 in her parent's Stanton home.
Dorothy was a member of Stanton Methodist Church, Chapter DF, P.E.O, and G.F.W.C. Stanton Woman's Club and helped organize the Stanton County Historical Society. For a time, she co-chaired the Stanton County Republican Party. She helped organize the Stanton Church Women United.
She's survived by four daughters and spouses: Dorohty Elaine and Loren Fuller of Stanton; Wynn and William Nuckolls of Fairbury, NE; Susan and Larry Harr of Omaha, NE; and Linda Kay and Michael Flaherty of Grand Island, NE; 14 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
